About the 'Roundhouse'...
The idea behind The Roundhouse, was to produce a budget structure using natural materials. A building with strong links to the past, and plausible as a liveable space also.
The stone was sourced from the surrounding land. I used a mix of sand, clay, lime, cow muck and chopped straw. Some animal and human hair, also. This makes a strong and breathable, durable mordant. Stone when bound in this way without foundation, moves ‘with’ the land and manages moisture. Using stone and glass in this way creates many positives: maximises light, feels very solid, has a lovely acoustic sound; Cedar and Larch roof tiles attract warmth to the interior, even on chillier days. A small 4.5kw woodburner soon cooks the place on even the coldest of days. Is very efficient, very low footprint, can boil water on it.
In terms of modern luxury, there are two-double plug sockets fitted. A small stretch of the imagination could soon produce a bed, a sink, a sofa etc. It is a lovely blank canvas with roots in the past and present just waiting for a loving owner.
